This 8-session self-paced course is geared for students aged 12 and older. The course helps students in homeschool or school learn about setting and achieving their goals.

Why goal-setting? Learning to identify and set goals can help teens take ownership of their education. Teens who feel invested in their learning are more proactive and involved in their educational choices.

Goal-setting also helps on a personal level. When teens continue to depend on their parents to set and achieve educational goals, tension can arise in the household. The teens feel—quite rightly—that it’s their education and they should be involved in the decision-making. But when teens haven’t learned to identify their goals and the steps needed to fulfill them, it’s difficult for them to work in partnership with their parents to make educational decisions.

    Note to parents:

    • This course is most developmentally appropriate for students aged 12 and older.
    • This course is for the teens themselves, not for their parents! Parents are encouraged to read the text and actively support their teens.
    • Although the book is aimed at homeschoolers, the course is appropriate for any teen who would benefit from taking ownership of their education.
    • Parent support resources, including a parent guide, are offered free on the instructor’s website.
    • All instructor-made videos and audio included in this course are close-captioned.

Note from a parent: “Our bright, gifted, and precocious tweener was a real challenge to us whether in regular school or homeschooled. We couldn’t get him engaged or interested in his own education. When we saw Professor Suki introduce her Goal-Setting for Homeschoolers course, it sounded like it could be a helpful addition. We consider the results transformational for our family. Our son is now eager, not only a partner in his own education, but really the driving force. He owns his coursework, has a plan, and a schedule he developed with our approval. It’s exciting to see a class create such a dramatic change in attitude. And we now have the miracle of a 13-year-old boy who looks forward to his school work!” ~The Ekstrand Family
